Phoebe's PLJ" began as a project for my Freshman English class when we were reading Daniel Pink's "A Whole New Mind". The purpose of the PLJ or Personal Learning Journal was to blog our thoughts on a selection of Pinks exercises throughout his book. I just recently came across this, today in fact. I was looking up creativity blogs on the internet, looking for some inspiration to do, well, anything. As I was reading through them I realized that creativity blogs are no more than random thoughts and tidbits of a persons creative, spiritual, and emotional journey through time. I have decided to make this PLJ not only a personal learning journal, but also my very own Personal Learning JOURNEY, my version of a creativity blog. With that I shall let the journey begin. No, not begin, resume with the journal as my witness.

Daniel Pink Video Reactions

When Daniel pink entered the screen i was surprised how normal he looked. for some reason i had always thought of him as a very small, nerdy looking man right down to the pocket protectors. however, the modestly tall, decently fit, 35 year old man who looked like any middle class father of three. But what makes this man so different? in my opinion, his cutting edge book is not what sets him apart from others, but rather how he presents his revolutionary ideas.

When i began reading the book, i found it quite dull, and felt like he was almost bragging about his intelligence. In the film however i found him very endearing and like he actually wanted to help people. He was more oriented towards helping you understand his views than convincing you they were true. I think this just proves his own theory about the story aspect of the right brain. When i was given a visual, and more conversational way of learning the same material, i felt that i understood it much better. i felt more like i was being taught then told, and i think that is a very important aspect of story.

Living Hero Radio Show and Podcast ~ Jari Chevalier said...

I'm surprised that your impression of him from his books was that he'd be nerdy. I always thought he sounded cool.

If you could ask one question directly to Dan, what would it be?

He will be my guest on the podcast Living Hero towards the end of February. And I'd like to invite your participation. Just type your question into the question box widget on the right column of the page, either anonymously or you can identify yourself. You can also revisit the blog section after the show and contribute to what I hope will be an interesting conversation.

My best, Jari
